Crape Myrtles and specimen plants at Kathy's Korner.

In 1980, Kathleen Muse, her parents and her husband, Steve, thought it would be nice to start a nursery.  Her parents had a nursery in the North since 1957.  Her father was thrilled that he could start cuttings and grow plants so quickly in Florida.  In the North, one could wait all season for 3 inches of new growth.

In the beginning, the nursery was very small (only two lots).  As it grew, the owners expanded a little at a time.  During the first few years, Kathy and her father ran the nursery while her mother and husband worked real jobs to support them.  Before long, they began growing and expanding until they all were working every day.

In 1989, they bought the land where the main nursery is currently located. It was the land where Old Hubbard’s Nursery was from 1946 through the 1970s. At that time, they expanded into larger shade trees, palms, crape myrtles and specimen plants.  Soon, they outgrew that area and bought land across the street.  According to Kathy, "Now, it’s just mom, Steve and me, but I think Dad would be really proud of how far the nursery has come."
